Welcome to Mrs. Augst's Kindergarten Class! Dear Parents, You should be very proud of your child. We've had a lot of visitors coming through our classrooms lately and they are doing a fantatic job carrying on with our activities. They are half way to first grade now. Let's not talk about that though. Cap and Gown pictures are just around the corner. I'll be sending home your child's cap and gown next week. Please put your child's name in the cap and gown. That way we'll know who to return it to the day of pictures. I'll send home a sheet explaining the details for picture day.
. I've created a blog for our Kindergarten class. I hope you enjoy this throughout the year. Click the link below to access it. www.MrsAugstsKindergarten.blogspot.com

Bible: This will be our "R" verse for the week. We'll discuss the meaning in class. T verse- Genesis 16:13 "Thou God seest me." Phonics:
We have begun to work on the one and two vowel rules. It's always a good idea to have your child mark the vowels in their reading books as we're working on them in class. They're doing a pretty good job so far. Practicing at home will improve their speed. The students are doing a super job learning these rules.
The rules are... ONE VOWEL RULE If a word has one vowel in it, it usually says it's short sound. Example: bit, cot, set
TWO VOWEL RULE If a word has two vowels in it, the first vowel says it's name and the second vowel is silent. Example: bite, coat, seat
Reading: Make sure that you have your child read the assigned pages in their reading books. I know that it seems to take time right now but the more you practice, the better and faster they'll. Just initial next to the assigned pages.
Here's some helpful information: A "C" reader is an average reader, a "B" reader is above average, and an "A" reader is an advanced reader. A "C" grade at the beginning is normal.

. Web Sites: I highly recommend that your child practice on these web sites. My personal favorites are starfall and ixlmath. We use several web sites in class that the students love. www.starfall.com , www.abcya.com , www.ixlmath.com, www.sadlier-oxford.com and www.mathfactcafe.com. I can tell that some of the kids have gotten on these sites. They are already letting me know things about them. Way to Go!!
Social Studies: We are studying about Children of the World.
Spanish: A link has been added to the "Important Links" section to the left with a document to help you review with your child for Spanish class!
Important Information Re-enrollment packets went home last week. Please make sure that you fill these out and send them back to school to ensure your child's spot for first grade.
