Welcome to Mrs. Augst's Kindergarten Class!

 Dear Parents,

Three more weeks of school.   How can that be?

Our Kindergarten Field trip to North Chase Church is scheduled for May 25th.  Parents are more than welcome to attend.   All three classes get together and have a fun filled day!   We need for parents to sign up for waters, juice boxes, and cool pops.   It's always very hot and the liquids are needed.  The cool pops are a big hit!!   I'll have this sheet in the classroom so you can sign up for what you would like to bring.

Upcoming Events:

May 18th -  Pet Day -  After lunch in the big parking lot.  Parents may bring a pet for show and tell that day.

May 21st-  Flip Flop Day -  Wear a pair of flip flops to school.

May 22nd-  Sunglasses Day

May 23rd-  Beach Towel Day -  We'll take them out to recess to spread out and eat our snacks on them.

May 24th-  Sand / Beach Toy Day-  We'll take them out to recess for the students to play with.

May 25th-  Kindergarten Field Day Event at North Side Church

May 31st-  Kindergarten Graduation-  7:00 pm  You'll want to get here early for a good seat though.

June 1st-   End of the Year Breakfast Party on the large playground next to the cafeteria.   We'll put up a list for you to sign up for breakfast items soon.

We  meet in the classroom at 8:10 am and have an awards ceremony and then we walk down to the playground to eat breakfast.   Please try to be here that day.   It's a sweet but emotional day for us.   The students get to leave when parents are ready to go.

FYI  -   Graduation Program in JUNE.  It's coming quickly.

Our graduation program this year will be "The Tale of Three Trees."   Every child will need to be dressed up as a tree.   We did this program several years ago and the costumes were quite simple.   You'll need a long sleeve brown shirt or a short sleeved one and a pair of brown pants.   Parents need to decorate a green hat with leaves.

I've created a blog for our Kindergarten class.   I hope you enjoy this throughout the year.   Click the link below to access it.

Phonics:

Continue practicing the special sound charts that are farther down the web page.   We've begun working through the orange cards now.

Reading:

Make sure that you have your child read the assigned pages in their  reading books.  I know that it seems to take time right now but the more you practice, the better and faster they'll be.   Just initial next to the assigned pages.

Here's some helpful information:

A "C" reader is an average reader, a "B" reader is above average, and an "A" reader is an advanced reader.  A "C" grade at the beginning is normal.

I highly recommend that your child practice on these web sites.

My personal favorites are starfall and ixlmath.

We use several web sites in class that the students love.    www.starfall.com , www.abcya.com , www.ixlmath.com, www.sadlier-oxford.com and www.mathfactcafe.com.

Science:  We've been studying about how God made the animals.
