We had a fantastic week! Parent Day was awesome. The kids were so excited that we got to play games together. We got to see the groundhog named Phil today. Too bad he predicted six more weeks of winter! We'll see. Check out our President's Day art in the hallway. The girls did George Washington and the boys did Abraham Lincoln. We read a really cute book this week called Beanie and Scamp. Ask your child how these two found their way back to the house!

Our Class is "Beary" Special

SHOW & TELL: Help your child find something that has Roman Numerals on it. You may write or print these if you don't have an item. (Hint: Check your watches!)

TOOTH CHART: I sent home a tooth chart with your child. If they return the completed chart at the end of the month, they will receive a small treat from me. They have to color the sun and the moon each day to show they have brushed their teeth twice. Keep the chart in the folder or at home on the fridge, whichever is easier for you.

BIBLE VERSE: Thou God seest me. Genesis 16:13

VOLUNTEER NEEDED: I could use some help on Wednesday or Friday morning starting at 8:10 and lasting about 30 minutes. See me if you think you might fit the bill.

SUPPLIES NEEDED: I am running low on Lysol wipes for the tables and hand sanitizer. We really go through both of these items so a Sam's Club or Costco size would be great!

VALENTINE'S DAY COOKIE SOCIAL: We will decorate some cookies at 11:00 on February 14. I will put a sign up sheet outside the door for needed items. We will exchange valentines and eat our cookies at this time. Please send in a medium sized gift bag for your child's valentines. Be sure to mark their name clearly on the gift bag. Use the class list in the margin of this page to go by for valentines. Don't write who the cards are "to:", just write "from: your child's name." This really helps with delivering the mail!

THINGS TO WORK ON AT HOME:

HOMEWORK: Assignments will go home in the folders on Monday and be due back to me by Friday of each week. Do both sides of the paper! Great job on the penguin reading assignment!

READING: We are "marking the vowels" on our papers now. If the word has only one vowel it is usually short, mark it with a smile. If the word has two vowels, mark the first one with a straight line and cross the other one out. Look for these papers to come home and make sure your child understands the concept. They also need to know how to underline the "blend" in the words. This is the first two letters of the word unless the word begins with a vowel (at, in, on, etc.). See me if you have any questions about this! They seem to be doing great so far! We learned our first "special sound" this week too. It is the ck in duck. We learned how to recognize it in a word and circle it on our paper. We will be learning a lot of these "special sounds". I will list the new ones each week on this page so you can practice with your child. The sounds will be in the readers as well.

SIGHT WORD TEST: The kids did great on the first test! Here's the new list of words: says, was, said, are, from, they, who, what orange, purple. Make sure your child doesn't try to sound out these. They need to be memorized so they are recognized immediately.

MATH: Take a few minutes each week to call out a few random numbers and let your child write them on a sheet of paper or a whiteboard.  Practice "after" numbers. These are easy to do in the car. We are learning the number words one, two, and three now in Math.

HANDWRITING: Practice writing last names and numbers 1-10.

BEARY IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

LAUNDRY DAY: Don't forget to take your child's mat home for laundering every Friday!

COLD WEATHER REMINDER: We will be going outside unless the temperature is below freezing. Please dress your child warmly!
