"Beary" Important Things to Work on at Home

Phonics: 

Practice marking short and long vowels in words.

*Short Vowel Rule: When there is one vowel in a word it is usually short; mark it with a "smiley face."

*Long Vowel Rule: When there are two vowels in a word, the first one is usually long; mark it with a "straight stick." The second vowel is usually silent; cross it out.

Special Sounds:

Practice circling special sounds in words.

(The ones with an * beside them are the ones we have already learned.)

Your child will be tested over these words on Friday, May 25. Sight words will be part of their Oral Reading grade from now until the end of the school year.

Math: 

Count to 100 independently by 1's, 2's, 5's and 10's.

Identify numbers 0 - 100 in mixed order.

Tell time to the hour, half hour, and fifteen past the hour.

Identify a penny and know its' worth: Penny, penny, easily spent. Copper brown and worth one cent.

Identify a nickel and know its' worth: Nickel, nickel, thick and fat. You're worth five cents. I know that!

Identify a dime and know its' worth: Dime, dime, little and thin. I remember you're worth ten! 

Identify a quarter and know it's worth: Quarter, quarter, big and bold. You're worth twenty- five I'm told!

Practice counting nickels and pennies together.

Before, After & Between Numbers.

Practice the 10 Addition family. (All the answers are 10)

Practice subtracting all from a number.

Handwriting:

Practice writing first & last name with only the first letter capitalized.

Due May 25 for 21 points.

"Beary" Important Announcements

1. We will have our next Show & Tell on Tuesday, May 22. Please have your child bring in something that has to do with the beach.
   
2. The last day for all students to take an AR Test will be May 25. Please plan on having your child take their last test by this day, as well as return all AR books.
3. Your child will need to be dressed as a "tree" for our Kindergarten Graduation Play: brown pants & brown shirt with a hat that has leaves attached to it.
4. Throughout the school year I would like to attend at least one outside of school event for your child. (Like a recital, ball game, or whatever they participate it.) Please let me know of any upcoming events so that I can make plans to attend!
