They are yours to keep or display how smart your child has become. Please make sure your child goes to the restroom before coming to school. There seems to be a great number who are needing to leave the classroom quite early to go to the restroom. The Open House events are for parents of students who are looking to come to WCA in the fall. If you have friends or family who are looking for a change in schools for their child, please invite them to come to one of our Open House events. The change is worth it. Valentine Party Plans The class party will be very simple. Mrs. Donaldson and Mrs. Matthews are heading up the refreshments. There will be a sign up sheet outside the classroom door on Monday. Please be sure to come by to sign up. As for Valentine cards, just have your child sign enough for the class and put them in envelopes. There is no need to put names on the envelopes. Please do not send a set for girls and a set for boys, just one set that will be for everyone. Bring them to school on February 14 ready to pass out. It will be very help for for your child if you send the cards in a grocery bag for easy distribution. We will use a valentine gift bag to collect all of our cards. Please be sure to send on large enough to hold all the cards and goodies that will come in that day. Also have your child's name on the bag in some way. There is no contest so you do not have to get creative. This also needs to be brought to school on February 14. For those who would like to attend the party will be at 2:00 in the afternoon.
Test date Friday, February 3, 2012 1 Samuel 16:7c For the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.
Spelling Unit 18 Review Words
(The Home Test will be on regular primary writing paper. Pretend to be the teacher and call out the words. Be sure to practice misspelled words correctly. Encourage neat handwriting! The Spelling test will be on Friday.
Look What We Are Learning Phonics Please refer to the list of special sounds to review with your child. We have started learning chart 11. We learn to say and spell them. Please help your child master these special sounds. Math We are doing daily fact drills in order to memorize these facts. They have a 2-minute time limit. We do not make marks to count or count on our fingers. We had started working on -2 facts. We have gone over that it is just like counting backwards by 2's (odd and even). We are beginning to start learning subtraction. The concept is some and some went away. I use the terms minus, take away and subtract. We are beginning with -1 facts. We have added the facts that are -0 or minus itself. Handwriting Though there is no handwriting assigned for homework, please encourage your child to practice correct cursive formation when writing at home. Please refer to the "Cursive Formation Guide" and "Correct Hand Position" guides sent home the first day of school. The grading system we use for handwriting is as follows: S+ Fantastic!--Perfect paper S Good Job--Needs a little improvement S- Acceptable--Needs improvement N Needs Improvement U Unacceptable--Messy and shows little effort Reading Please remember that a "C" reader is an average reader, a "B" reader is above average, and an "A" reader is an advanced reader. A "C" grade at the beginning of the school year is normal.
