Volunteers
Thank you so much to all the parent volunteers.  You are helping us learn!

Library
Library books will be coming home in plastic zip bags.  Please return the books in the bag.  This will help me with getting the AR tests taken as soon as your child finishes their book.

Accelerated Reader

We will be reading 4 books for the month of February, or a total of 20 points on the AR test.  (More difficult books and chapter books are worth 10 points each.  Books that can be read in an afternoon, like "The Mitten" are worth 5 points each.)

The AR program focuses on reading comprehension.  In Second Grade each student will be required to read at least 4 AR books and take the quiz each month.  Each quiz is worth 25 reading points, which is a total of 100 points each month. The students grade will be based on their score on the AR tests.  If the quiz has 10 questions on it(like in chapter books), the book will count as 2 books.  The higher the reading level, the more difficult the quiz and the reading.  At the end of each month they will receive their AR points.  They may take more than 4 quizzes each month, I will count the highest scores for the reading grade.  Our class’s quizzes will be due on our library day.  The student will check an AR book out of the library each week.  The child can read the book silently, read it to you, you read it to them, or do all three!  The goal is to help the child comprehend what they read.  I do have a few AR books in the classroom that the student can check out if they would like to do some extra reading or they may read any AR books you have at home.  The computer does not allow them to test on any books that they have tested on in the past.

This week's verse:

I John 4:11  "Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another."

No MONKEY Business
Must listen carefully
Obey right away
Need to follow directions
Kind and respectful treatment of others
Everyone must be responsible
You should take care of our school
