"Math Facts Competition"

Congratulations to:  Emma, Carter, Malachi, Logan, Meg, Preston, Brionne, Paige, Jacob, Justin, Allie, Ashley, Zackary, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Hunter, Mia, Chase, Joshua, Katie, Kamy, and Madison for completing their math facts!!!  Way to go!

This competition will be worth 75 points.  The students will need to say their math facts from 1 to 11 (up to 12) and they will have 4 reviews.  For example, 2x1=2, 2x2=4, 2x3=6, 2x4=8, 2x5=10, 2x6=12, 2x7=14, 2x8=16, 2x9=18, 2x10=20, 2x11=22, 2x12=24.  They can do the facts in any order; however, the reviews cannot start till all 1-11 facts have been completed.  The reviews will be a mixture of math facts from different fact families.  If the students make a mistake or take too long saying the facts, they will have to wait a day to say them again.  They will have till May 24th to complete the facts and on May 25th we will have an ice cream party for those that completed all their facts.

We are in need of toppings for our ice cream party.  Please let me know if you can send toppings.  I would love to have a lot of different options for the students.  They have worked so hard and deserve this special treat.  Thank you!

End of the Year Party- May 31st

SCOOTERS SKATING CENTER
Time:  9:30-11:30
Includes Skates
Roller Blades can be rented for an additional dollar or two.
Snack Bar will be open.  Bring extra money if you want to purchase a drink or snack.

CHUCK E. CHEESE
Time: 12:00-1:30
Includes: 2 slices of pizza
soft drink and refills
16 tokens
Bring extra money if you want to purchase extra tokens.

Parents are welcome to come on this field trip.  You can pay for your skates at Scooters and purchase your food at Chuck E. Cheese.

Morning Drop-Off -- If you drop your child off before the 8:00 bell, please take them to the cafeteria.  We are getting reports of students being dropped off under the carport and waiting unsupervised. This is for the safety of your child.  You are welcome to sit in the parking lot with your child and wait for the doors to open.  Do not park under the carports please.  These are used for a drive through drop-off only.

If you want to send a special treat for birthdays, please tell me in advance.   A carb count of the treat would be helpful as well.  This is important information I need to share with Meg and her family.  There are times she may have a treat as long as we know ahead of time and have the carb count to help adjust her insulin intake.  Also, Paige is allergic to the food dye- blue #1.  Thank you so much.

Kids 4 Truth

The kids love chapel time every Wednesday with Pastor Monty. He is also in charge of our Kids 4 Truth on Wednesday evenings. Kids 4 Truth is a terrific website to visit and even has a great family devotional.

Health Chapter 7 Flashcards

Accelerated Reader

May AR is required.  Your child must read one chapter book at their reading level (no picture books).  The test will be worth 100 points.  Please have them read carefully as this test is a comprehension test on the book they have read.  Have them tell you about the book and/or ask questions about the book.  The test cannot be retaken if they do not score well.  They may read another AR book and take a test.  I will take the higher score for that month.

Don't forget to visit Renaissance Home Connect to see how your child did on their AR test.  You can click on the "Click to Open in New Window" (found on the bottom right of the Renaissance website page) to search for AR books and you can see the book level as well.

Here are some wonderful websites to visit to help reinforce and build upon our skills.

IXL

You can pick the skill and work 20 free problems once a day.

Math Fact Cafe

A great site to practice addition, subtraction, and multiplication math facts.

www.spellingcity.com/BHayden

You will need to visit Spelling City for Unit 16 spelling words.  This site will take you to our Spelling lists.  Please click on Mrs. Hayden's name for the spelling lists.  The Sadlier Oxford book has only ten words so please go to Spelling City for the entire list.  We will take two weeks to cover one unit. The first week will be spelling only and week two will be vocabulary over the first ten words.  The vocab words can be found in the Sadlier Oxford book.  (Use the definitions from the book and not the website.  The website only gives you one definition per word.)  My recommendation is to not wait until the second week to start learning your vocabulary words.

www.vocabularyworkshop.com

This website is an online component to support and extend each unit for spelling/vocabulary.  Make sure you select 2011 version, the green book, and student.  Click on “Go To”.  From there, you will only need the access code on the copyright page of your child’s vocabulary workshop book and a valid email address to create your own account.

http://www.superteacherworksheets.com/ is a great site to use for extra help.

God's Bridge to Eternal Life

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
