General Reminders 1. If a student forgets something in the classroom, they may not return to the classroom until 3:20. Students have been found in our rooms with no supervision. One or both teachers will be back in the classrooms by 3:20. Thank you for your help and cooperation in this area. 2. Look for your child's STARS test report in your child's homework folder on Monday. 3. Valentine's Party - Tuesday, February 14th at 2:15. Please click on the class list in the red section on the left for classmates' names. If students bring valentines, they must bring one for everyone in our homeroom. They are welcome to bring any for special friends in Mr. Chappell's class, but children do not have to bring one for everyone in his class. We are just going to exchange valentines and have snacks in our own rooms, so we do not need parents to help during the party. If you are willing to donate any of the following items, please let me know. 1. A salty snack - bag of chips, pretzels, etc. 2. Small plates 3. Napkins 4. We have the next several weeks for students to take their academic tests. The tests are on the computer, and students have 90 minutes to complete them. Mr. Chappell and I will schedule our students and send a copy of the schedule home with your child at the beginning of next week. If you know ahead of time your child has an appointment coming up, please let us know so we can schedule he or she on a different day. 5. Pi Day at Cape Fear Museum - Wednesday, March 14th from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. Chaperones are needed to take small groups of 5 children around to the various activity stations. Permission slips will be sent home soon. You can start contacting us if you want to help that day! 6. AR books that are below the bottom level of a student's range will not count for the monthly requirement. At this point of the year, students should be reading around the middle of their range.

AR Guidelines and Announcements February 90% Club Congratulations to the first members of the February 90% Club! Miss Young's Readers: Taylor, Emily, Gloria, Payton, Stelphen, Aarron, Bryce Mr. Chappell's Readers: Haley, Nick S., Brianna, Maria Accelerated Reader (AR) is a monthly requirement for all students. The goal is to increase comprehension and develop a love for reading. Students must read a chapter book at their level and pass the AR test with 80% or higher. It is a test grade in reading. If a student reads multiple books in a month, the highest grade received will be recorded. If a student reads only one book, then the score they receive on that book will be recorded. Failure to read a book will result in a zero. Picture books are not acceptable for the monthly reading requirement. These may be read for fun and points with MIss Pope in the library. A steady diet of picture books is not beneficial in building your child's vocabulary and comprehension.
