WCA's Technology Program

When learning how to use the computer, students often have trouble applying the knowledge that they learn in the computer lab to their everyday subjects. To combat this tendency, we use Trajectory (formally known as School Technology Program) a program offered by Global Academics. The curriculum and training offered through Trajectory allows our academic teachers to teach their students how to use Microsoft Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher) in different subjects. This accomplishes two things: 1) Integrates computers into our core curriculum teaching  2) Increases our teacher's computer proficiency. This program starts in K5 and continues through High School.

Besides the Trajectory program, WCA offers Middle and High School technology electives. Middle School students on the "Wheel" elective track will take Keyboarding as part of their elective schedule. High School students can choose to take Computer Applications or Principles of Technology.

Principles of Technology

Robotics... First Tech Challenge (FTC)

FTC is designed for those who want to compete head-to-head, using a sports model. Teams of up to 10 students are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and is programmed using a variety of languages. Teams, including coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as for well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.

The students get to...

  • Design, build, and program robots
  • Apply real-world math and science concepts
  • Develop problem-solving, organizational, and team-building skills
  • Compete and cooperate in alliances and tournaments
  • Earn a place in the World Championship
  • Qualify for close to $7 million in college scholarships

Above description is from the First Tech Challenge website.

The student's grade will be based on...

  • Participation
  • Peer Evaluations
