Goals and Objectives |
Freshmen English provides students with the opportunity to build heavily upon many of the grammar, usage, and punctuation rules learned in previous grades. Students will practice writing well-developed paragraphs and essays across the various modes of writing and incorporate the traits of effective writing. In addition to this grammar and writing intensive course, students will also build their vocabulary through weekly vocabulary units and expand their reading through a healthy sampling of novels, short stories, poems, and plays. Junior English Senior English serves as a capstone to a complete high school English education. Students will craft well-developed compositions based upon traits of effective writing. Students will solidify their understanding of how to write across the modes of writing, incorporating appropriate style and tone for each composition. Students will also add the final polish to their understanding of grammar, usage, and punctuation rules. In addition, students will read novels, short stories, poems, and plays from British Literature and analyze these elections for their various components their uses of rhetorical, structural, symbolic, and imagery devices. Girls’ Bible 9 Girls’ Bible 9 explores Acts and the early Pauline epistles which presents the foundation of the Early Church and its advancement. Each lesson focuses upon character qualities associated with the biblical account of the events surrounding the building up of the church. In addition the class teaches doctrinal principles as they pertain to the church and evangelization. Broadcast Journalism Broadcast Journalism, also known as the WCBC (Wilmington Christian Broadcasting Class) allows a student to produce news programs that inform and entertain the student body. Students will develop their abilities to determine what makes news; to gather good news; to conduct the interview; to write and record news scripts; to edit footage; and to produce a balanced broadcast program. In addition to their production responsibilities, students will engage in discussions about a variety of broadcasting topics, such as bias in news and the ethical and legal responsibilities of reporters. |
