Girls on the Run
What is GOTR?
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.
Girls on the Run is an Affiliate Council of Girls on the Run International, which has a network of over 200 councils across the United States and Canada.
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun,
experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
Girls on the Run of Coastal Carolina hosts its own unique 5K celebrations at the end of each season. All Girls on the Run participants throughout the Girls on the Run of Coastal Carolina Council come together for one of the semi-annual 5k (3.1 mile) runs held in their area. The runs, presented by the Wilmington Family YMCA, are the culminating event of the girls’ season. The races are open to the general public. The race proceeds support Girls on the Run of Coastal Carolina.
GOTR requires a minimum of 8 girls and limits each group to a maximum of 20 girls per team.
